Please take a moment to review our news from the clinic.
Medication
Per Hanover County Public Schools policy:
- Students are not permitted to transport medications to and from school. This is a violation that could result in disciplinary action.
- Students may not have any prescription or over the counter medication, to include throat lozenges/cough drops, in their possession. This is a safety measure to ensure students are safe from ingestion of harmful substances.
- A physicians order is needed for all prescription medications.
- Over the counter medication must have a parent authorization sheet submitted along with an unopened container of medication. An adult must bring in the medication to the school nurse.
Illness
- Students visiting the clinic that do not present with fever and vomiting, will be returned to class one time to attempt to finish out the school day. Should a student return, a phone call to a parent or guardian will be made and it will be the choice of the parent or guardian as to if the student will be picked up.
- Students visiting the clinic that present with vomiting or a temperature of 100.4 or higher, will be sent home and must be vomiting and fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medications before returning to school. Student that are sent home due to fever will be marked as excused for the next 24 hours/following day only.
As we enter the winter months and continue to see a rise in illness, please encourage your students to wash their hands frequently, especially before eating, cover their mouths in their elbows when coughing or sneezing, and disinfect touch surfaces, such as keyboards, phones, and tablets frequently. Opening doors with elbows or using a paper towel to open the door versus touching the door with hands (as well as sink handles) will also decrease the spread of illness causing bacteria and viruses.
