Dear OKMS Families,
I am excited to share with you that at its monthly meeting last night, the Hanover County School Board appointed Mr. Jon Patterson as the new principal of Oak Knoll Middle School, effective July 1, 2025. Mr. Patterson comes to Oak Knoll with a wealth of experience in education, including in his current role serving as an assistant principal at Chickahominy Middle School since 2017.
Mr. Patterson, a Longwood and Virginia Commonwealth University alumnus, is a Hanover County resident and was previously a social studies teacher at Atlee High School, an administrator in Spotsylvania County, and an assistant principal at Patrick Henry High School. His student-centered focus is evident by the fact that he has been named a Hanover Scholars Honored Educator four times.
Over the next few months, I will be working with Mr. Patterson to ensure a smooth transition for him to lead Oak Knoll. Mr. Patterson will reach out to the community when he begins his new position in July, including opportunities to get to know you and your student.
As I shared with you last month, while I am excited for retirement, I am deeply grateful for the support of this extraordinary community during my time as your principal. I am thankful to leave our school’s leadership in the capable, caring hands of Mr. Patterson and our fantastic staff.
