Rules & Tools for Success: Parents in the Know!
September 27, 2018

We are so glad to invite you for our Back-to-School Night program where we will offer parents a wide variety of sessions to attend throughout the evening. After the Welcome from the PTA and your child’s home base teacher, you will be given instructions for the evening. Be sure to choose 4 sessions to attend from the list below. We hope that you enjoy the program! We highly encourage all parents to attend the team and communication sessions!

  • 6:00- 6:15 Welcome, PTA Message and Instructions 
  • 6:20 - 6:40 Session 1
  • 6:45 - 7:05 Session 2
  • 7:10 – 7:30 Session 3
  • 7:35 - 7:55 Session 4


Team Meetings~ Visit your child’s team of teachers to get the ‘true flavor’ of teaming in middle school.

Communication Tools I - Learn (or review) how to access Schoology. This is used to view daily class work, homework and long-term projects. Another critical communication tool you will learn about is e-Connect. We encourage all parents to sign up for e-Connect. This is a tool this school uses to communicate important information to parents. (Room 107) Mrs. Archer 

Communication Tools II-– PowerSchool to stay up-to-date with each of your child’s teachers. Student grades are listed in PowerSchool. Be mindful that teachers are encouraged to enter grades weekly. Another critical communication tools you will learn about is e-Connect. We encourage all parents to sign up for e-Connect. This is a tool this school uses to communicate important information to parents. (Room 618) Mrs. Florey

Insider’s Guide to Oak Knoll - The OKMS senior teachers will share information regarding team–teaching, communication, parent conferences, and PBIS. (Room 802) Mrs. Jefferson and Mrs. Lipton

Social Networking Success - Obtain ideas for keeping your teen safe on social media, texting and other devices of our “Digital Native” generation. Many resources will be shared! (Room 714) Mrs. Lycett

Counselors’ Corner – This is your chance to meet your child’s counselor and learn about the middle school counseling program. Learn more about the referral process for individual and small group counseling, guidance lessons, and the registration process. (Lecture Room) Mrs. LePeter (6th grade), Mrs. Luchau (7th grade), and Mrs. Collier (8th grade), and Mrs. Pittman (career counselor)

Gifted and Talented Program in the Middle School -Parents of students identified as gifted and talented need to attend this session. Information about the GT Seminar elective will also be covered. (Room 803) Mrs. Burns

Getting Active and Fit - Our PE teachers will share their programs on Health, Physical Education and Athletics at Oak Knoll. (Gymnasium) – Mr. Crews, Mrs. Molloy, Ms. Moore, Mr. Shibley, and Ms. Carr (Ms. Carr will be with her 6th grade team)

Information is Power! Oak Knoll’s Online Learning Resources - Stop by the library to discover Oak Knoll’s online information resources. From Destiny Catalog to Gale Learning Databases to World Book, participate in a scavenger hunt while learning how each of these resources can help your child be a better researcher and consumer of information. Handout including how to access these resources from home, usernames and passwords will be provided. - (Library)- Mrs. Aitken and Mrs. Loving

Ready For High School? – Come meet a HHS Administrator! Interested parents can meet an administrator here at 
OKMS and hear about the transition to high school in a smaller setting. (Cafetorium) HHS Administrator, Mrs. Reece

Staying Connected - Our Substance Intervention Counselor, Mrs. Cray, will discuss how to have those tough conversations about peer pressure, drinking, substance use, and healthy decision-making. Come get up to date on current issues and trends. Now is the time to start talking! (Room 301 across from Cafetorium) Mrs. Cray

Please note, this is not a parent-teacher conference night. Parent-teacher conference dates are as follows: November 6, 2018, and February 18, 2019. If you need to speak with a teacher specifically about your child, please contact the team leader to schedule a meeting.
